Update: VICTORY!!! The Lamar, Texas County Commissioners voted to keep the Confederate Monument! The difference is that 150 compatriots and Friends showed up to express their desire to keep the monument right where it has been for over 110 years. OUTSTANDING!!! ---------------------------- Heritage Issue in Paris, Texas! --------------------------- From The Paris News online edition June 15, 2017: Monument location goes before court Commissioners to talk removing confederate monument from courthouse grounds During a special meeting Friday, Lamar County Commissioners are expected to discuss relocating a confederate monument from the south side of the Lamar County Courthouse grounds. Lamar County Judge Chuck Superville said commissioners are concerned about perceptions. “We are concerned,” Superville said. “We want to talk about [the satue] and about what we can do to make a gesture of being a more open and understanding community about these things.” Precinct 1 Commissioner Lawrence Malone said he believes there’s a place for the statue, such as a museum. “It’s offensive and something that divides our community,” said Malone. “I’m all for making a unified community.” Lonnie Layton, Lamar County Precinct 2 Commissioner, agreed. “We’re all Americans and we need to keep the unity,” said Layton. “As far ...
