SELMA, NC (The Johnston County Report) – A man arrested by Selma Police this week has been charged with his sixth drunk driving offense.
Around 11:30pm Monday, an officer was on routine patrol on US301 and spotted a Honda Accord slam on brakes in the middle of the roadway then accelerate. The officer began following the vehicle as it reportedly weaved in the travel lanes. The officer turned on his blue lights and the car eventually stopped.
The driver, Anthony Cespedes Gonzalez, a 34 year-old construction worker from Raleigh, allegedly told officers he didn’t have a license. He reportedly claimed he had consumed only two beers before getting behind the wheel to drive to the store to purchase cigarettes.
Police said Gonzalez repeatedly ask officers for a break and to be released.
He registered 0.15 on the Breathalyzer, nearly double the legal limit of 0.08.
Police said Gonzalez was arrested for drunk driving in New Hanover County in 2008 and four times in Wake County between 2009 and 2014.
He was charged with habitual impaired driving and given a $100,000 bond. Police also impounded his car.
