Confederate statue vandalized in Tuskegee 

AL.com – Tuskegee Mayor Lawrence Haygood, Jr. didn’t agree with the vandalism of a 111-year-old Confederate monument in the city’s town square.

Haygood told AL.com he found out about the vandalism on Wednesday morning. When he went to go see the statue himself, he saw spray paint over the wording on the 111-year-old statue. Haygood said he can understand a citizen’s opinion about the location of a confederate statue in a predominantly-black town that’s rich in African-American history. But he didn’t agree with the approach.

“If someone wants to do something about it, there’s a way to go about it,” Haygood said. “But defacing of public property is not the way to go.”…
