Immigration and Customs Enforcement Director Thomas Homan says politicians who run sanctuary cities should be charged with crimes.
In an interview with Fox News Channel’s Neil Cavuto, Homan insists that the Department of Justice needs to file charges against municipalities that refuse to cooperate with federal immigration authorities. He also stated that he thinks those same municipalities should be denied federal funding.
According to Human, politicians should be held “personally accountable” for crimes committed by people living in the U.S. illegally. “We’ve got to start charging some of these politicians with crimes.”
Jeff Sessions, U.S. Attorney General, has repeatedly asserted that the White House wishes to withhold federal money from jurisdictions that refuse to give federal immigration authorities access to jails or provide advance notice when an illegal alien is about to be released.
Homan’s comments on Fox News came after his open criticism about California’s new sanctuary state law. The new law, which commenced Jan. 1, gives greater protections for illegals living in the state. It also limits cooperation between local law enforcement and U.S. immigration authorities.
