(Felicia Farnsworth, Union Springs Herald) As stated in previous articles, 23 historical markers have been erected throughout Bullock County. With the help of the Historical Marker Database (, as well as information provided by the markers themselves and the help of the internet, I have been able to put together a series of articles stating where they’re located and the meanings behind them.
I also used the following websites to obtain my information;, Wikipedia,, and I did a lot of research on this marker and how it came to be.
I wanted to give the history of the highway to the Herald readers since the marker is so minimal in the description. Over more than a hundred years ago, several states did not have road departments.
By 1910, cars were becoming more common; however, the highways were not numbered.
