The bill gives a 40% tax credit for qualifying families with four children, the credit would go up 10% for each child

(FOX) Texas state Rep. Bryan Slaton has introduced a bill that would give property tax credits based on a number of factors some consider to be controversial.

HB2889 aims to give tax relief to qualifying married couples, and the amount would vary based on the number of children, according to the legislative proposal.

“I come from East Texas. We have biblical values there where we want people to get married, stay married, be fruitful and multiply,” Slaton, a Republican, stated, reported KTBC.

The bill defines a qualified married couple as “a man and a woman who are legally married to each other, neither of whom have been divorced.”

The measure would give a 40% property tax credit for qualifying families with four qualifying children. The tax discounts would then increase by 10% per additional qualifying child up to 10 children. Ten or more children would result in a property tax-free household.

Several atheists say they were offended by a prayer vigil held by the City of Ocala, Florida, in 2014 after a mass shooting that injured several children

(Chris Pandolfo,FOX) The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday rejected a Florida city’s request to dismiss a lawsuit brought by atheists who say thoey were offended after the city held a prayer vigil following a local mass shooting.

The City of Ocala had asked the Supreme Court to clarify whether “psychic or emotional offense allegedly caused by observation of religious messages” was sufficient to grant the atheists standing to sue, arguing it is not. The Supreme Court denied the city’s petition, handing the atheists a temporary win. However, Justice Neil Gorsuch explained in a statement that the lower courts now reviewing the case should ultimately side with Ocala.

The case concerns two individuals, Lucinda Hale and Art Rojas, who are members of the American Humanist Association. Hale and Rojas have accused Ocala of violating the establishment clause of the First Amendment after police organized a prayer vigil with local religious leaders in response to a 2014 shooting in which several children were injured. Court documents said police chaplains were praying and singing on stage while in uniform…

The atheists claimed that the religious elements of the prayer vigil were offensive and made them feel excluded. The district court and the U.S. Court of Appeals…

(Christian Post) Churches in Texas have pledged to sponsor the resettlement of 64 Christians from China’s persecuted “Mayflower Church” who fled to South Korea in 2019 but were denied asylum.

Southern Baptist congregations and other churches in East Texas have said they will sponsor the exiled members of Shenzhen Holy Reformed house church, which came to be known as Mayflower Church after some 60 Chinese Christians, including 32 children, arrived in South Korea’s Jeju Island in 2019. Sixteen families are now in Thailand awaiting responses to their refugee applications first submitted to the U.N.’s refugee agency UNCHR on Sept. 5, 2022.

The name Mayflower comes from the English ship that carried passengers — some of whom were Protestant separatists seeking religious freedom from the Church of England — who traveled to the colonies in the 17th century.
