(Post and Courier) – Those flying the Confederate banner along I-85 suffered a defeat in court, but their attorneys said they don’t plan to raise a white flag.

Judge Mark Hayes ruled Feb. 20 that a notice of violation Spartanburg County issued against the 120-foot flagpole is valid and the county Board of Zoning Appeals abused its discretion when it overturned the notice in January 2023.

Attorneys for the landowner filed a motion to reconsider. There was a subsequent hearing, and Hayes indicated April 5 that his initial ruling would stand.

An attorney for the property owner told The Post and Courier it will appeal this ruling. A county spokesperson did not respond to a request for comment.

It started when less than an acre of land near the end of Teaberry Road changed hands in December 2019. It was an end-of-year gift to Adam Washington Ballenger Camp No. 68, the Spartanburg chapter of the Sons of Confederate Veterans Inc.

While tucked away on a seldom-used road just behind the tree line, the property sits close to where Interstate 85 and I-85 Business intersect. More than 80,000 cars pass by daily.

Robert K. Merting, an attorney for the new owner, emailed County Building Codes Director Gregg Hembree on Oct. 12, 2020, to see if a permit was required to raise a flagpole. The next day, Hembree responded: “No permit is required for a flagpole.”

Subsequent conversations with code officials received the same response, the camp reported, although they required a permit for electrical work at…

Gutless! Youngkin wants Another Vote on Ending Non-Profit Status for Heritage Groups or Scrapping Lee Plates

(He could have took a stand one way or the other. Instead, Youngkin’s proving himself just another white wimp, pander pimp! – DD)

(WRIC) – Lawmakers voted to take away tax breaks for Virginia’s division of the United Daughters of the Confederacy — but Gov. Glenn Youngkin wants them to do it again in 2025 before the state can cut off the tax benefits for the group.

The Virginia General Assembly passed Democrat-led legislation to remove recordation and property tax exemptions for the state’s division of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, a women’s nonprofit group headquartered in Richmond that helped erect Confederate statues and memorials and backed efforts to stop their removal.

Two identical bills from state Sen. Angelia Williams Graves (D-Norfolk) and Del. Alex Askew (D-Virginia Beach) made it out of the Democratic-controlled legislature to Gov. Youngkin’s desk with some Republican votes.

Youngkin recommended changing the bills to require lawmakers to pass them again in 2025 to end the group’s exemptions for the state’s recordation tax on real estate.

Sen. Williams Graves told 8News in a phone interview Tuesday that she’s “disappointed that he [Youngkin] is not owning the history of these organizations.” She added that she thinks the governor is looking to “buy some time” on having to sign the measure.

The governor did not propose to change the legislation’s provision on ending property tax exemptions for the United Daughters of the Confederacy, the group’s Virginia division, the Confederate Memorial Literary Society and the Stonewall Jackson Memorial, Incorporated.

Jinny Widowski, the United Daughters of the Confederacy’s president general, called the legislation “an unfair, discriminatory tax bill, selectively targeting charitable and historical entities that support Virginia tourism, scholarship assistance and promote respectful dialogue about our shared past.”

Youngkin also added an amendment to require the state’s…

(HK Edgerton) – Approximately 9 years ago as I stood don in the uniform of the Southern Soldier, Southern Cross in hand at the base of the Honorable Governor Zebulon Baird Vance Cenotaph, a young Black girl would come to where I stood.

Mr. Edgerton, you need to go down to the County Courthouse, she said pointing to where the Confederate soldiers Cenotaph stood. The soldier can’t even be seen because of the tree limbs covering it. And not even to mention the beer cans, cigarette butts, and trash on the ground around it that is no longer grass. Young Diamone Mays would challenge me to do something about it. Finally, after several weeks, the County Commission Chairman, the Honorable Nathan Ramsey would direct me to the City Mayor whose staff was responsible for the maintenance on and around the Cenotaph. The tree limbs were cut, grass sewn, and the area around the Cenotaph cleaned up.

The Texas Order of Saint George would learn of Ms. Mays efforts to clean up the Soldiers’ Cenotaph, and quickly made her the first person to be inducted into the Texas Order of Saint George living outside the State of Texas in a ceremony at the Dixie Barbeque Restaurant in Johnson City, Tennessee before a packed house. And not to forget the Medal she was also awarded.

Several months later the Confederate soldier would be removed from the base, and to this day some nine years later and hundreds of inquiries to the City, it has yet to be seen again.

I note here that the 1st Black woman Mayor, the Honorable Terry Bellamy, would ask me to present a program about the Confederate…

Cultural Marxist Buffoons Now Want to Rename Ft Bragg, Kalifornia

What’s In A Name?

(Anderson Valley Advertiser) – A lot more than we thought. Take Fort Bragg. Driven by the pique of social-justice activists, Fort Bragg’s in trouble, because of its name. Philip Zwerling, BA, MFA, PHD—born in New York, here via academia, who retired to Fort Bragg in 2018, appears to be one of the leading spokespersons for a facelift of the Fort Bragg name. Currently he has come up with a contest for Fort Bragg students to change the name of their town. Additionally, In past letters to the editor, Zwerling has stated: “…it seems to me absurd that our town (Fort Bragg) honors a slaver and traitor by bearing his name.” Our town honors? Hold on PHD-in-theater Zwerling, are all the people of Fort Bragg racist because of the name of their town? Do confederate flags fly from city hall?

Braxton Bragg, (who never set foot in Fort Bragg), was a confederate general. He and his wife owned slaves before the Civil War. After the war, bereft of slaves, he sold life insurance, and was an engineer who ran the water works in New Orleans, until during reconstruction, a former slave was given his job. Ole Braxton got what he deserved: old time, affirmative action. On the other hand, General Braxton Bragg was labeled “the most hated man in the confederacy.” Why? For shooting his own men and losing nearly every battle he led. No Bonaparte, Braxton Bragg.

Did Braxton Bragg contribute to the defeat of the south, which led to the end of slavery? History’s a crafty prostitute that works both sides of the streets. Nonetheless, for a petulant few, especially PHD Zwerling, merely pronouncing the name of Fort Bragg requires washing your mouth out with soap.

In the 70s, there was a …

(Phelps County Focus) – The flags that flew in the Confederate States of America flew again Saturday for a few hours from atop the Sugar Tree Road overpass on Interstate 44 west of Rolla.

Those flags were held by members of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, an organization that honors family members who fought on the side of the Confederate States of America from 1861-1865. One way of honoring the memory of those ancestors is an annual Confederate Flag Day observance.

“It was complete success for our very first public event,” said Herbert Turner, commander of the new Moses J. Bradford Camp 2344, Missouri Division, Sons of Confederate Veterans, which was formed just this past summer. “We had a great turnout and we had great response from those who attended and from people who were driving by.”

Lt. Commander Dave Cowell handed out the various flags to the participants, who then walked to the overpass with half standing over eastbound traffic lanes, half over westbound traffic lanes.

Many vehicles passing beneath the overpass gave quick notice on their horns, a bit like an auditory salute, indicating their support of the flag display. Truck drivers especially responded; just about every…

(Daily Tribune) – April is a busy month for Dale Black, commander of the Stiles-Akin Camp No. 670 Sons of Confederate Veterans.

With Confederate History and Heritage Month in full swing, the Cartersville resident is gearing up for the Stiles-Akin Camp’s Cassville Confederate Memorial Service. The observance will be presented April 13, 10 a.m., at the Old Cassville Cemetery at the corner of Cass-White Road and Shinall-Gaines Road.

Highlighting the event’s purpose, Black shared it is to “honor our Confederate veterans and all veterans.” The event will feature speakers, various presentations and a gun salute.

Established in the early 1830s, Cassville became the most prominent town in northwest Georgia, featuring a courthouse, businesses and two colleges. While Cassville was under Union occupation beginning in May 1864, it was not destroyed by the 5th Ohio Regiment until Nov. 5. The remaining structures included three churches and three residences, some of which were serving as makeshift hospitals.

Its cemetery still underscores the impact…

Why Is Marxism—But Not Madison—Being Taught at Montpelier?

Montpelier’s Emphasis on Marx Over Madison Spurs Consternation

(Daily Signal) – James Madison is the Father of our Constitution, and the Robert H. Smith Center for the Constitution at Madison’s Montpelier provides educational programming for teachers, law enforcement officers, and others.

That seems appropriate. After all, not only did Madison—our country’s fourth president—help draft the Constitution, but he also served as a key delegate at the Constitutional Convention, authored the Bill of Rights, and urged ratification of the Constitution through his practical and philosophical arguments in The Federalist Papers.

But these accomplishments are, at best, downplayed at his historic home. Montpelier has no exhibits dedicated to Madison and his contributions.

Worse still, Montpelier is equipping educators to teach Marxist-based theories to elementary, middle, and high school students. And the programs doing this are, in part, funded by the state of Virginia.

Issues surrounding policing and prosecution could be fair game for seminars at Montpelier. The Fourth Amendment protects against “unreasonable searches and seizures.” The Fifth Amendment, among other protections, guarantees that no person shall “be deprived of life, liberty, or property without due process of law.” The Sixth Amendment guarantees the “right to a speedy and public trial” by an “impartial jury” and the ability to confront those testifying against you. And the Eighth Amendment protects against excessive bail, excessive fines, and cruel and unusual punishments.

Madison drafted all of those.

Yet next week’s “Educator Seminar: Policing and Public Safety” will instead focus on…
