(NBC2 News) The teacher who produced a ‘Confederate History Month’ video and then played it in front of a Collier County middle school will not face any disciplinary action.
The teacher was identified by the district in a 90-page investigation file as Jonathan Papanikolaou, a social studies teacher at Manatee Middle School.
He created and showed the video to students during the morning announcements on April 12.
“It’s a shame that you decided to go about trying to make awareness about what Confederate History Month is,” said Christine Cooper, whose daughter is a student at Manatee Middle School.
“After careful consideration and evaluation of the facts and evidence, the decision has been made that there is no just cause for discipline,” said the district’s Employee Review Committee (ERC) in a decision delivered on April 27.
