Confederate battle flag replaced with SC state flag on I-85 in Spartanburg County

(Post & Courier) SPARTANBURG — A massive Confederate battle flag raised over Interstate 85 in Spartanburg County has been taken down and replaced with a South Carolina state flag, though the county still intends to follow through with its order that the entire flag pole be removed.
The flag pole, erected by a local chapter of the Sons of Confederate Veterans on private property near where I-85 and I-85 Business converge northeast of Spartanburg, remains in violation of county zoning law.
County Councilman David Britt told The Post and Courier on Nov. 2 the property owners have until Nov. 10 to comply with orders to take it down.
The county has issued the property owner an order demanding removal based on a 1999 zoning law that in part bans flag poles that have no accompanying uses such as a home or a business…Read the rest
