UTA students continue to push for renaming two buildings with ties to racism, segregation
A committee tasked in 2018 with looking into the past of one of the building’s namesakes found no evidence to warrant changes, officials said.

(Dallas Morning News) University of Texas at Arlington senior Kenzaria Atkins remembers learning during her freshman year that it’s considered good luck to rub the bust of former campus President Ernest H. Hereford.
It was only until recently that Atkins, a biology major who is also vice president of the Black Student Alliance, learned about racist activities that took place during his tenure. Skits during events involving students in blackface and Confederate symbols were common at the university.
“It’s really uncomfortable for Black students or minority students,” said Atkins, 21. “This is the 21st century … there should be no reason that that guy is still a big thing on campus.”…

Is the Fix in on Almost Impossible J6 Trial Under 1861 Law?

(Since 1861 almost all "Seditious Conspiracy" charges have ended in acquittal or dismissal. It is such a difficult charge to prove that most prosecutors won’t go near such an indictment. Seeing as the case will be tried in the left-wing enclave of DC, prosecutors must be confident they can convict "right-wing" defendants with an almost assuredly leftist jury – DD)

(AP) WASHINGTON (AP) — The founder of the Oath Keepers and four associates are on trial in the Capitol attack on charges that include seditious conspiracy — a rarely used Civil War-era accusation that strikes to the heart of what prosecutors say happened that day.
Stewart Rhodes and his followers are the first Jan. 6 defendants to stand trial on such a charge for what prosecutors say was not a suddenly ignited riot but a coordinated plot to stop the transfer of presidential power.
The stakes are high for the Justice Department, which hasn’t tried a seditious conspiracy case in a decade and hasn’t won a guilty verdict since the 1995 prosecution of Islamic militants who plotted to bomb New York City landmarks…Read the rest

2 years after a pledge to rename Confederate-named schools, some students left wondering when will the change come

(CNN) Montgomery, Alabama-Shortly after the US Supreme Court ordered schools to desegregate in 1954, Robert E. Lee High School in Montgomery, Alabama, opened.
Brown vs Board Education angered White segregationists at the time, and the school and others across the South were a result of the opposition to desegregation. Decades later, controversial buildings, especially Confederate monuments and schools named after Confederate figures, throughout the South have been the subject of debate. Montgomery – the birthplace of the civil rights movement – is no different.
In response to the death of George Floyd in 2020, many of these districts across the South and beyond pledged to rename schools that were named after Confederate leaders. More than two years after America’s racial reckoning, some have been renamed.
But in Montgomery – a school district that is 80% African American – the names Robert E. Lee, Jefferson Davis and Sidney Lanier remain on three high schools.
When protesters brought down the statue of Robert E. Lee in front of the school that bears his name in 2020, Clare Weil, the county board of education chair, called it a turning point…Read the rest

Edenton reckons with Confederate monument

(Chowan Herald) Public pressure to address the relocation of Edenton’s Confederate monument intensified this summer, all while town and county leaders continued to mull through logistics and possible legal ramifications of such a move.
August marked one year since the initial recommendation from the mayor-appointed Human Relations Commission to relocate the monument.
All the while, the monument still rises from the terminus of Broad Street, looming over a town that seemingly prides itself on both heritage tourism and being a place of diversity.
In a way, the town has become a microcosm of a national debate in the aftermath of George Floyd’s murder at the knee of a Minneapolis police officer. Grappling with the Confederate monument’s current interpretation has been one of Edenton’s more contemporary and chief dilemmas.
Since the decision from the Edenton Town Council in May to cede ownership of the monument to Chowan County, progress has been slow…Read the rest

YIKES: Heavily Armed Antifa Goons Show Up to “Defend” Drag Show for Kids in Texas

(Trending Politics) Things continue to spin out of control in American culture, with things getting crazier and crazier bit by bit as even people who are normal and politicians that we should be able to trust sit on their hands and watch as the left pushes things ever farther over the line.
Such was recently shown in Texas when not only was there a drag show for kids, but heavily armed and mask-clad Antifa goons showed up… Not to defend the kids and keep them from the clutches of whatever perverts want to do drag with kids, mind you, but to “defend” the even from those who were full of righteous indignation about the “groomer”-type event.
Images of that shocking display of armed force in defense of groomers came from Blaze TV producer Kris Cruz, who shared pictures of the Antifa goons kitted out and “defending” the drag even and said…

Protesters heading to trial after 2020 Gainesville march against confederate statue

(KXII) SHERMAN, Texas (KXII) – Justin Thompson, Torrey Henderson, and Amara Ridge all helped put together multiple protests over the summer of 2020 to remove a Gainesville confederate statue.
Now, the three could face up to six months in jail and a $2,000 fine for the march of August 30.
“After the protest, they all said we did a wonderful job,” said Thompson. “They would see us the next week for our next protest and thanked us for being so peaceful.”
“I was completely surprised because they had told us the protest went really well,” said Henderson.
Gainesville Police charged them with obstruction of a highway or a passageway.
Organizers said they only left the sidewalk once- to walk around a puddle.
“Which forced us out into the street, and so we continued the march in the street to the courthouse, which was only about two blocks and there were no really cars behind us,” said Thompson.
Protesters said the outcome of Tuesday’s trial is about more than obstructing a highway…Read the rest
