From the Abbeville Institute:

A few days ago, I attended the annual Robert E. Lee Banquet in Virginia. I felt so at home and surrounded by Southern comrades who shared my values. We all had a grand time. In these trying days, it is very difficult to stand up for traditional Southern values.

I often think of my mentor Cleanth Brooks–whose grandfather was a lieutenant in the 7th Tennessee Cavalry, CSA, Forrest’s Corps–and his lifelong closest friend, the writer Robert Penn Warren.

“Red Warren” (as he was called by his closest friends) once asked his grandfather, the former Captain Gabriel Penn CSA, 15th Consolidated…

(The College Fix) ‘Duties … must include efforts to strengthen and increase intellectual diversity among the students and faculty’
Public university leaders in Tennessee are staying silent on how and when they plan to follow a new state law that requires them to implement intellectual diversity on their campuses.
Diversity offices, presidents’ offices, and media affairs’ divisions at the University of Tennessee Knoxville, University of Memphis, Tennessee State University and East Tennessee State University have not responded with answers to emails and phone calls from The College Fix over the last 10 days asking about their plans to follow the relatively new law.
Last spring, Tennessee passed HB 2670, which outlawed mandatory critical race theory in curricula as well as hiring and promotions within The Volunteer State’s public institutions of higher education.
But tucked into the legislation is another key clause…Read the rest

Drag Bingo In Chattanooga Bans Cameras But Not Kids

(Tennessee Conservative) As part of Chattanooga’s Pride Week, the Big Chill and Grill hosted yet another “all ages” event last week, Drag Bingo, but with one notable difference – two drag performers announced that recording or photographing of the show was prohibited and anyone caught doing so would be kicked out of the event.
According to Ashley Kaye, known as The Unsilent Patriot on Instagram, a reporter who tried to attend was turned away and told that he could not record or photograph any part of the “family friendly” event.
Kaye posed this question to The Big Chill and Grill, “If everything you’re doing is innocent and you’re not doing anything wrong, why are you so concerned with us filming it?”
Several children were in attendance with their parents where men masqueraded as immodestly dressed women. These men danced provocatively and reached for cash thrust at them from the audience throughout the evening. …Read the rest

SCV Continues to Block Wiliamson County Wokeness

(A NEWS story by a paper that won’t even bother to name the organization correctly in the headline? You can see that writer’s perspective up front. Had to deal with the same thing from our now-defunct local paper when I was a Camp Commander. For some reason they couldn’t seem to print the word "Confederate." Every entry in the community calendar was for a "Son’s of Veterans" meeting until the second lawyer letter got their attention – DD)

Sons of Confederacy Continue to Block Williamson County Seal Change

(Williamson Source) The Spring Hill-based Major Nathaniel Cheairs Camp 2138 Sons of Confederate Veterans (SCV) has once again brought legal action against Williamson County in an effort to block the county’s removal of the Confederate flag from the county seal. This occurred after a vote by the Tennessee Historical Commission (THC) on the issue, which is required by law, had been delayed three times due to the showdown. However, the THC voted unanimously in April to allow the county to alter the portion of the seal that contains an image of a Confederate flag draped over a cannon because it didn’t apply to the Tennessee Heritage Protection Act.
The THC’s Heritage Protection Act, which was approved in 2013, was created with the goal of protecting Confederate monuments and symbols. The Tennessee Heritage Protection Act (THPA) states that it ensures “no memorial regarding a historic conflict, historic entity, historic event, historic figure, or historic organization that is, or is located on, public property, may be removed, renamed, relocated, altered, rededicated, or otherwise disturbed or altered.”

Inner-city Memphis residents sound off on safety after livestreamed shooting, Eliza Fletcher killing
Memphis locals give mixed answers on whether the city is a safe place to live

(FOX) People in Memphis, Tennessee, sounded off on the city’s crime rate after a teacher was abducted and killed and after a gunman went on a livestreamed shooting spree.
"Right now the kids ain’t going to no community centers or nothing, learning anything," Larry said. "Bunch of gangs got ‘em. They’re picking up guns, smoking weed."
But another Memphis woman, Willette, said: "It’s like everywhere else to me, the crime rates, everything."
It’s still a safe place, you just got to watch your surroundings," she continued. "I don’t care wherever you go, it’s bad. Not just Memphis."
A gunman went on a shooting rampage in Memphis, killing four and injuring three others during a Facebook livestream on Sept. 8. Days earlier, Memphis teacher Eliza Fletcher was abducted and killed. Memphis ex-con Cleotha Henderson was charged with first-degree murder and faces a slew of other charges related to the case.
One man told Fox News it was not safe "in the hood."…

(The Tennesseean) Two Black men who challenged their criminal convictions after jurors deliberated in a Tennessee courthouse room containing Confederate symbols have received opposite rulings from different judges on the same appeals court.
One was granted a new trial. The other was denied.
The conflicting decisions likely mean the matter will be appealed up to the state Supreme Court to sort out the discrepancy.
The rulings from two three-judge panels of the Tennessee Court of Criminal Appeals center on trials held at the Giles County Courthouse, putting jurors in a room adorned with items maintained by the United Daughters of the Confederacy, including an antique Confederate flag and portraits of Confederate President Jefferson Davis and Confederate Gen. John C. Brown. In June, a state commission approved plans to move the artifacts to a museum.
This week, a panel of judges ruled unanimously against a new trial for Barry Jamal Martin, who went to trial in February 2020, was convicted…Read the rest

(FOX) Police in Memphis, Tennessee, arrested a 19-year-old repeat offender suspected of shooting and killing four people and injuring at least three others in a rampage on Wednesday afternoon.
