New Coke – Today In Southern History

On this date in 1985…

In one of history’s most bone-headed buisness decisions, Coca-Cola changed its formula and released New Coke. The supposed “original formula” was back on the market in less than three months as Coke Classic.


Other Years:

  • 1861 – Arkansas state troops occupied Fort Smith on the Arkansas-Indian Territory border. 
  • 1861 – General Robert E. Lee assumed command of all state forces in Virginia.
  • 1940 –-A fire at the Rhythm Club dance hall in Natchez, Mississippi, killed 198 people.
  • 1982 – The Conch Republic was established, desiring secession of the Florida Keys from the United States of America.
