Rival drug cartels open fire on each other with .50 cal weapons just miles from Texas border
The Gulf and Northeast cartels were fighting over a popular drug and human smuggling route

(FOX) Members of two rival Mexican drug cartels opened fire on each other just miles from the U.S.-Mexico border, using .50 cal machine guns mounted on trucks to claim dominance over a popular smuggling route.
The footage, provided to Fox by the Texas Department of Public Safety, shows at least four vehicles engaged in a gunfight on a road near Ciudad Miguel Aleman, a Mexican border city directly across the border from Roma, Texas, in the Rio Grande Valley. DPS identified the rival groups as the Gulf Cartel and the Northeast Cartel, adding that at least one cartel had a thermal imaging drone monitoring the carnage from above.
The battle comes as the flow of drugs and human smuggling continues to overwhelm the U.S. border. Officials in border states have pushed for new ways to stem the flow and combat the cartels by providing logistical support.

(The Center Square) Nearly two dozen states are sending National Guard troops to the U.S.-Mexico border to help federal immigration officials grapple with an unprecedented surge of undocumented migrants.
The deployments, which were requested by the U.S. Department of Defense, call for up to 2,500 National Guard members from Republican-led states like Kentucky, South Carolina and Arkansas, as well as Democratic-led states such as Rhode Island and Illinois.
The troops were requested by DOD to assist U.S. Border Patrol in dealing with a surge of illegal trafficking of people, weapons and drugs into the country. The troops will work only in support missions, a Defense Department spokesman said, and are prohibited under federal law from detaining undocumented migrants or others caught crossing into the United States illegally…Read the rest

(FOX) A memo circulating among Senate Republicans this week details how the fentanyl crisis continues to worsen across U.S. communities as southern border drug seizures and encounters reach record highs.

Those who have witnessed activity at the border believe the crisis at the border and the fentanyl crisis are correlated.
"Yeah, I’ve never seen anything like this. The numbers, the organization, the movement. And the federal government is doing a masterful job of keeping it on the down-low as much as possible — sanitizing it as much as possible," retired Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agent and Texas congressional candidate Frank Lopez Jr. told Fox News Digital.
CBP agents seized an unprecedented 10,500 lbs. of the deadly drug in 2021, and seizures have already surpassed 12,000 lbs. so far this year — the most fentanyl ever seized in a single year in the United States. Hawley’s New Bill Would Give States Vast Immigration Enforcement Powers

(Flag & Cross) As the US border crisis continues spiral out of control on account of the Biden administration’s lackadaisical attitude toward border security, a number of American lawmakers have felt compelled to take matters into their own hands.
For Texas Governor Greg Abbott and his Florida counterpart Ron DeSantis, that meant executing an advocacy campaign that provided migrants with transportation to liberal enclaves such as New York City and Martha’s Vineyard.
Congressman Josh Hawley is taking the sentiment a step further, however, looking to provide state lawmakers with an opportunity to pick up the federal government’s slack.
