ActBlue Hosts Dark Money Group to Raise Donations Via ‘Ian Response Fund’

(Florida’s Voice) FORT MYERS (FLV) – A coalition of Democrat advocacy groups, such as Florida Rising, encouraged donors to give money to a hurricane relief fund that funnels into a dark money organization.
Political advocacy groups including Florida Rising, Dream Defenders, Florida Immigrant Coalition, FL Jobs With Justice, and Faith in Florida coalesced to promote the Florida Ian Response Fund.
“The Florida Ian Response Fund will address urgent response needs of impacted communities, ensure equitable state and federal responses, and provide emergency aid throughout the state via a network of grassroots organizations that are standing by to quickly address the needs of their communities,” the fund’s website said.
However, the Florida Republican Senatorial Campaign Committee criticized the Florida Ian Response Fund for not showing up as a valid charity…Read the rest

Arrested looters in Lee County were in US illegally, says sheriff: ‘Not tolerating it’
Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno gave the warning to looters during Tuesday press conference

(FOX) Officials in Lee County, Florida, are warning that not all post-Hurricane Ian looters may get off as lucky as the jailed accused scavengers arrested earlier this week — some of whom are in the U.S. illegally.
Omar Mejia Ortiz, 33, and Valerie Celeste Salcedo Mena, 26, were arrested, along with 20-year-olds Brandon Mauricio Araya and Steve Eduardo Sanchez Araya. Lee County sheriff’s deputies arrested all four on charges of burglary of an unoccupied structure during a state of emergency, according to online jail records.
Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno held a press conference Tuesday in which he addressed the spike in looting and illegal scavenging in the aftermath of the historic hurricane…Read the rest

Ron Paul: Americans Suffer From Natural and Government-Created Disasters

(NOQ Report) Last week Congress passed a continuing resolution and then adjourned until after the election. When Congress reconvenes, it will almost certainly pass a multi-billion dollars aid package for those impacted by Hurricane Ian. This spending will likely be labeled “emergency,” so Congress members will not even have to pretend they are offsetting the new spending with cuts in other, lower priority programs.
The failure of Congress to offset spending on disaster relief with cuts in other programs is one reason why I always voted against disaster aid when I was in Congress, even when the spending was for disasters that occurred in my district. Of course, I also opposed these bills because disaster relief is unconstitutional and immoral as are all other income redistribution programs.
When I voted against disaster relief, my office would receive angry calls from constituents. However, within several months many of those constituents would call back to say that after dealing with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) they realized that disaster victims would be better off without federal “help.”
Federally managed disaster relief is neither efficient…Read the rest

Hurricane Ian nears Category 5 strength ahead of landfall in Florida
Hurricane Ian has strengthened to Category 4, just shy of Category 5 status, and is looming off the coast of Florida.

(NWS and FOX) The National Hurricane Center said Wednesday that Hurricane Ian would cause catastrophic storm surge, winds and flooding in the Florida peninsula.
The storm was located about 65 miles west-southwest of Naples, Fla., with maximum sustained winds at 155 miles per hour.
A hurricane warning was in effect for Chokoloskee to Anclote River and Dry Tortugas.
A storm surge warning was in effect for Suwannee River southward to Flamingo, Tampa Bay, the lower Florida Keys, Dry Tortugas, St. Johns River and the Flagler/Volusia Line to the mouth of the St. Mary’s River.
The combination of storm surge and tide will cause normally dry areas near the coast to be flooded by waters moving inland.
From Englewood to Bonita Beach, the water could reach from 12 to 16 feet.Live Updates
